I am having this problem for the second time , bought a new cd burner (optorite cd/rw cw5201) it came bundled with nero burning rom.I used the drive to play music and it worked fine.I then installed nero and attempted to burn a music cd , nero would not recognise the cd/r disk. now the drive does not work at all . I also have adaptec ez cd creator 4 installed.
came with roxio software and initially worked ok but now i either am told that no cd burning device detected or the computer freezes when i try to use it

I would not have both of those installed on the same system without taking great care in the matter. And I think having nero the first. I would uninstall both; tidy up: get a registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone .zip, extract it,
r-click on it and merge it into the registry then reboot. then reinstall the burning software that you intend to use. Put Nero on alone and try it out.

Either the drive failed or you have a very severe conflict. Without knowing your OS, it's hard to say how to locate and to resolve the conflict, but check for one.
