The problem you are having is the most common failure in just about all projection TVs, the convergance amplifier ICs have failed and need to be replaced. your set uses the STK-392-110 or STK392-150 amplifiers. there may also be some support resistors and fuses to replace also. these amps work very hard to keep the lines together they have very large heat sinks to keep them cool but they will fail in time.

Your set have bad convergence chips in it. There are 2 of the same type of chips in the convergence board and if 1 is bad, change both of them and be safe as to not have to work on the set twice. These chips range from about 20 dollars each to 80+ dollars each, but I'de think yours would be in the 50 dollar range. So if you can fix the problem yourself, you should be able to get by with about a hundred bucks. Good Luck and I hope this has helped.

How do I take the 57F500 apart

I have a Hitachi 57F59 tv. I've read that these models are very similar. With out knowing for sure if they are alike or not, on the XXF59 you have to take the speaker grill first. There are some screws holding the bottom part of the screen. there are also screws holding the sides and top part of the screen that go in through the back side of the screen frame. Once ALL the screws are out is just a matter of pulling the screen out.

Cleaning the mirror and lenses is the the start to have a great picture on these sets. There are plenty of tweaks and of course calibration that will make these sets compete or surpassed even the newest TVs.

Enjoy your new set!!!

HITACHI 57F500A

Work is needed on the convergence board; Could be just resistors or the ICs and resistors. Seems to be an ongoing issue, especially for sets that have their brightness levels turned higher than usual to compensate for room ambient light..accordianman

How to disassemble an old Hitachi projection TV (model 53sbx59b)

To remove the protection screen and lens from my Hitachi model 53SDX89BA:
1) Remove the speaker cover from the bottom. It is attached by velcro.
2) Remove the 4 screws on 4 plastic tabs on the bottom of the screen frame.
3) Remove the 4 screws on the 4 metal tabs on the bottom beneath the screen frame.
4) Pry the bottom corners loose with a wide blade screw driver and work both sides of the screen frame away from the case from the bottom up. CAUTION: The top does not snap away as the sides do. When the sides are loose let the screen frame hang down vertical and lift the screen frame straight up.
5) The protection screen and the lens will come off together.

When reinstalling the screen frame perform the steps in reverse. Be careful when resnapping the frame back onto the case - there are two small wooden support blocks on the bottom. Don't try to force the frame back on until you are sure the bottom of the frame clears these block. You may find it easier just to remove them temporarily until the frame is reattached.
