Re: cooktop light is flashing

We see this a lot. Assuming the bulbs, sockets and wiring are okay, the problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Details of our service and critical safety information and disassembly information is at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:

You should try to at least find the same wattage. The light bulbs are not dangerous safety hazards if they are made to fit microwaves.

Microwave Cooktop / Night Light not working

I would check the door switches with a digital meter, set to ohms, disconnect one wire from switch and test for open and short by pressing door switch, if you hit one that tests the same when pressing and releasing, switch should be replaced.

Did you recently have trouble with the cooktop lights?

Sometimes when the cooktop lights blow or are inserted or removed while the oven is still plugged in, the filaments can short, causing a surge that damages the controller.

They can be repaired. More details here.

No power

I would say a cooktop lamp got shorted by the moisture.

Assuming your circuit breaker is good, the main problem would probably be a blown 15A or 20A ceramic fuse inside the unit.

Once that's replaced, if the hood lights and /or exhaust fan still don't work, then your control panel would need to be repaired, which we do for $39.95 nationwide.

If you or someone you know decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:

If and when you remove or install cooktop lamps, the power to the oven must be unplugged or turned off at the breaker.
