Yes you can replace the screen yourself but be warned its not hard but you may crack or break something else in the process with that said check ebay most of the time you can get a replacement screen make sure your battery is out and your laptop is unplugged
on your laptop there will be some little rubber tabs on the plastic framing surrounding your screen take the tabs out with a little flathead screwdriver once thats done if there is any ruber stripping pull them off to and check for screws once all screws are unscrewed start from the sides with a flat screwdriver and pop the front platic off it snaps on and off once you take all the screws off once the plastic is off see where everything is plugged in from your cracked lcd unplug them it should be 2 conections i think, if its a ribbon you will most likely have some little tabs you will have pull back then the ribbon will come rite out then replace the old screen with the new on if you need any other help just ask ill be around ...

Is the screen cracked?
If it in not cracked the fault maybe the inverter which supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or the CCFL lamp maybe faulty.
