Question about Canon PowerShot S400 / IXUS 400 Digital Camera

Canon Powershot S400 - purple color in pics and viewfinder

All of a sudden... my Canon Powershot S400 has purple haze in viewfinder, and, in pictures. Is there an adjustment I can make, or, should I trash the camera? Please respond to cphdrider@aol.com

Thanks Fixya, I had the same problem with my s400. Called Canon and got it fixed. Love it.

  • Anonymous Feb 13, 2008

The image has fine horizontal lines and a pink haze.

  • Mel Vogel Feb 23, 2008

As I reported -- to another post but about the same problem -- I, too, have the same problem -- a purplish curtain of horizontal lines shows when I look at my S410's LCD monitor. At first, this was only affecting my looking through the camera -- it did not alter the saved image, but later on, after I took a series of photos at a nature preserve, many of the saved images came out with a lot of those purple lines showing and somewhat blurry (instead of being in sharp focus, which they would have under normal circumstances because there was ample sunlight when I took the photos.) I will contact Canon -- hopefully, they will fix the problem at no charge (and also pay for two-way shipping.)

  • Mel Vogel Feb 25, 2008

Correction to my post: the purplish lines seen through my LCD monitor are vertical, not horizontal. The main point, though, is that they are now present -- signalling something is wrong with the camera.

  • Anonymous Mar 07, 2008

I got my Canon PowerShot S410 returned today, via FedEx, after Canon fixed the problem (mentioned above -- the purplish-colored vertical-lined curtain that I saw when I looked through the camera's LCD monitor.

Canon made the repairs at no charge to me and they also paid shipping both ways.

All my photos have a pinkish band at the top and the whites are pinkish purple. This just started. I see that others have the same problem and I didn't just push the wrong button???

Since the instruction manual is so confusing to me, I started by Googling troubleshooting.

    Thanks.

Hello!

Unfortunately it sounds like you have a bad CCD on your A75. You can try calling Canon to see if it is under the CCD recall. The recall is over, but Canon allegedly has still been accepting customer's cameras for the recall.

Good luck!

Sounds like your LCD might have gone bad. The LCD might cost more than the camera costs, but there are a few places on eBay that you can buy a repair and replacement service from for pretty cheap.
