Ever, since I updated my Garmin C550 using the Map update 2008" when I now select "Where to?" and then "Address" and use the prompt for "Spell State/Province" I get the normal box to spell out the state. Normally I type in something like CA or just C and a list will come up. However now nothing is found even after I've spelled out the full state name. I have all the newest software by way of the webupdater. Everything else seems to function 100% to include other icon based look-ups like "Food, Hotels... I have two C550's both with the same exact version updates and their own product key map updates on works and one doesn't. What's wrong? Please excuse my question - because I answered it altready. After reloading "Map Update 2008" a third time it now functions. I wanted to leave the question here in case someone else has had this issue and they also thought about reloading the Map. In my case reloading the 2008 MAPs did eventually work. It wasn't until I was about to try for the 3rd time I realized it may be my PC (yeah right that's what Tech Support allways go to first). They would have been right, my second C550 updated just fine using a newer PC with faster 2.0 USB's so I used it for my first C550 as well. Bingo! I don't know if it was just coincidence and the 3rd attempt was going to work anyhow or if the 2.0 USB did really make a difference. Does it?

Re: Can't find State or Province
The C550 does support USB 2.0 so data transfer of the Maps was most likely faster. The newer USB drivers from Garmin is most likely USB 2.0 compliant. Perhaps they didn't fully test it for USB 1.1 Anyway it's working for now. Usually I go to setting Map, Map info to verify that the upgrade was successful.

When updating your map you may have chosen a version that does not have your state.... like canada and eastern USA... etc... try reloading your map and select via mapsource the map that carries your state. Or install a 4 gb sd card with the full map if your nuvi has the card slot on the side... good luck
Go To Tools..... Settings..... Map.....on bottom of screen you will see Map Info ....press it now make sure you want to use the map that has a checkmark in it..... if you have 2 maps there youcan only use 1 at a time
(Untried) For C330 owners that want to have both Canada and US 2008 map update on their GPS this is what you have to do.
Must have: 1 - Street pilot C330 2 - 512mb SD card 3 - SD card reader of some form (some cameras will suffice) 4 - Garmin 2008 Map Update North America
What to DO:
1 - connect the GPS to the computer 2 - Insert the Map update disk 3 - Install the Lower 48 states, United States (Reason - the C330 has around 1000mb of memory and the "US 48 states" map uses around 900mb" while Canada uses 400mb...which is why you will need that 512mb SD card later)
4 - Once the GPS is updated with the US map. Browse the Map update disk contents. This can be done with going to "My Computer" right click on your CD/DVD drive and click on "Explore"
5 - Open the folder called "img"
6 - Copy the file called "gmappromU.img" file is around 430mb. (This is the map file for Canada)
7 - Insert your SD card into your card reader and connect it to your computer. A window should pop up. If not you should see it on your "My Computer"
8 - Once you have navigated your way into the SD card directory. Create a folder on the SD card named "garmin" (no caps)
9 - Go into your newly created "garmin" folder right click and paste the "gmappromU.img" file. (This may take upto 20 to 30 mins)
10 - Once the process is complete, Rename the "gmappromU.img" file to --> "gmapsupp.img" (watch for spelling, no caps at all)
11 - Remove the SD card, Turn off your GPS, Insert SD card into GPS.
12 - Turn on GPS, let it load, and there you have it, the FULL North America Map.
When you are searching a state or province (depending where you are located) it will give you an option which map to use, Canada/Alaska or the lower 48 US states. Select your map and you are set to Go.
Turn on the Garmin. Look for the little wrench on the screen and select it. Now look for Map, select Map. Now look for "Map Info", select Map Info. Verify that there is a check mark next to City Navigator North America NT
