Ever, since I updated my Garmin C550 using the Map update 2008" when I now select "Where to?" and then "Address" and use the prompt for "Spell State/Province" I get the normal <Enter State/Province> box to spell out the state. Normally I type in something like CA or just C and a list will come up. However now nothing is found even after I've spelled out the full state name. I have all the newest software by way of the webupdater. Everything else seems to function 100% to include other icon based look-ups like "Food, Hotels... I have two C550's both with the same exact version updates and their own product key map updates on works and one doesn't. What's wrong? Please excuse my question - because I answered it altready. After reloading "Map Update 2008" a third time it now functions. I wanted to leave the question here in case someone else has had this issue and they also thought about reloading the Map. In my case reloading the 2008 MAPs did eventually work. It wasn't until I was about to try for the 3rd time I realized it may be my PC (yeah right that's what Tech Support allways go to first). They would have been right, my second C550 updated just fine using a newer PC with faster 2.0 USB's so I used it for my first C550 as well. Bingo! I don't know if it was just coincidence and the 3rd attempt was going to work anyhow or if the 2.0 USB did really make a difference. Does it?
The C550 does support USB 2.0 so data transfer of the Maps was most likely faster. The newer USB drivers from Garmin is most likely USB 2.0 compliant. Perhaps they didn't fully test it for USB 1.1 Anyway it's working for now. Usually I go to setting Map, Map info to verify that the upgrade was successful.
