Question about Olympus Camedia C-8080 Wide Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

Compact Flash card unreadable by computer

I bought the C-8080 when it first came on the market several years ago. I've always used one of two cards I have and downloaded onto iPhoto. Twice within the last couple of months I've taken pictures only to have my computer say the card is unreadable. When I reinsert the card into the camera the LCD comes up with wanting to reformat the card. This has not happened sequentially in that I've downloaded since this first occurred.
I don't know if this is a problem with the camera or the fact that I've reused my cards multiple times.

Hi Craig Click,

CF cards are flash memory based technology and as such have the practical limitation of 500-1000 overwrite cycles before they can become unstable. I would suggest you have a card(s) which are reaching this stage in its life. Beg, borrow or buy another card to see if your luck changes....I suspect it will.

Good luck

If you reied formating these cards in your computer and it did not removed the photos, then format these cards using the Nikon camera.
When I format my compact memory card in my Nikon it erases all the photos at once.

Nikon 4300 CF Card Erro

The Nikon Coolpix 4300 only supports the FAT16 filesystem, so it can only support a 2GB partition. To support 4GB you need a FAT32 filesystem.
Put the card in a CF writer and attached to a PC or Mac. Partition 2x2GB partitions, then format them as FAT16. Now put it into the Coolpix 4300 and it should work.

My card won't work on my computer, what is wrong?

When you format the card, be sure to do it in the camera, as the camera firmware writes hidden files to the card.
When you insert the card into the card reader, be sure to set write-protect, so the contents cannot be corrupted.
I suspect what may have happened is that at some point there has been a conflict between files written to the card by the camera and the computer.

Instead of connecting via the camera, just use a USB card reader and put the CF card in that.

Card Set Up Error

xD or compact flash? If its the xD, format it in a Fuji camera at a camera store (just ask to see a demo and explain to the guy you want to see if the camera will work with that card...) Fuji seems to format cards better than Oly, even the tough ones. If it is compact flash, look inside the socket for any bent pins, common for that type of card.

"Disk is unreadable" message when inserting a CF Card - Macintosh OS 9.x

Certain system software is needed to allow a Macintosh (running Macintosh OS 9.x or earlier) to access mounted compact flash cards. If this required software is not installed the computer will not be able to recognize the card and will display the following error: DO NOT press the "Initialize" button, as this will completely erase the card and destroy all images. Click the "Eject" button and then enable the necessary system software. The following Extensions or Control Panels need to be activated: File Exchange - Control Panel Foreign File Access - Extension The "Extensions Manager" Control Panel (found under the "Apple" menu) can be used to enable these items. After switching them "On" restart the computer to apply the changes. After restarting the computer insert the card and it will mount on the desktop like any removable disk.
