Generic problem for all Shredders

Ativa DQ 120dDoesn't run in auto

posted by SD-KSH on Jan 05, 2008

The shredder runs like a charm in reverse, but not in auto. Wife put it in reverse the other day and returned the switch to auto. Without warning and no indication or man handling, it stopped running. (this is from a woman that breaks things with just a thought!). Either way, the unit should not have quit through normal or my wife's rugged use.

I personally work with Fellowes brand shredders, but it sounds like you have a paper feed sensor issue. This may be a mechanical or electronic sensor located in the center of the paper feed slot. If it is electronic it may just need cleaning(qtip dipped in rubbing alchohol. If it is a mechanical sensor check to make sure it has not been broken or it may be stuck because of paper that has become wedged behind it(you may need to jiggle the switch a few times to free it). If none of this works you may have a burned out switch or a bad pc board, contact manufacturer for more info.
