My washer appears to have a short in the control panel

For a Kenmore 90 Series, on both sides of the control panel exterior, on the corners, there are plastic end-caps. Gently pop them off. Underneath you should see a philips head screw, one per side, where the control panel and washer top meet. Remove each screw and then pull the control panel up from the bottom. It should just flip up on it's hinges. Don't loose the screws.
