Question about Acer Aspire™ T180 PC Desktop

PC locked up.

I just purchased a Acer T180 Desktop used form a friend. It was working fine at his house I tried connecting it to my DSL line and it didn't work so I tried changing the user account on the computer and did something that locked it up. Now to reboot it I have to shut the power off. When it reboots I can move the arrow with the mouse but nothing happens when I click on the start button or any icons.

Can anyone give me some advise on what I can do to correct the problem and be able to connect to my DSL line?

    Thanks Stonebreaker for the fast reply. Don't laugh to hard but I got everything working. Here's what happened. When I was changing the Account Administrator to myself I turned the UAC off and that locked me up for some reason. Then I pluged the DSL modem tel cable into the filter instead of direct ioto the tel line. Anyway, I'm working fine now and I'm saving your advise becaues I know this old man (75) will need it down the line. LOL

Reboot in to safe mode (follow these steps)
1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start "windows with networking", and then press ENTER.

See if your DSL line works in that mode. If it does, then we simply need to clean up your windows startup applications.

    To fix this:

    When you are in safe mode do the following:
    1. Hold the windows key and press R (windows key looks like a flag, it should be to the left of your spacebar)
    2. In the box that appears, Type "msconfig"
    3. Click OK
    4. The "System Configuration Utility" window should appear
    5. Click the far right tab labeled "Startup"
    6. You should now see a bunch of items listed with checkboxes
    7. uncheck everything

    When you reboot that should fix your problem.

    If it doesn't:
    1. Re-boot in safe mode (with networking) again
    2. Install Spybot Search and Destroy
    3. Run the program
    4. Run all the updates
    5. Do a full system scan
    6. Choose the option to fix everything
    7. Reboot, See if that fixes it

    if it doesn't

    1. Re-boot in safe mode (with networking) again
    2. Browse to and run a complete system virus scan
    3. Reboot, See if that fixes it

    if it doesn't post again and i'll tell you what to do

Yes, when you use the actual discs that came with the computer you computer will be restored to normal. These Operating systems are called BIOS locked CDs, if they detect the right brand BIOS / motherboard they will install the OEM edition of the OS, hence you need not activate it or it will get activated properly.

Internet plays when not logged on

these days, computers are permanently connected to the internet via cable or dsl connections.  if you use either of those, you are still connected to the internet even without a browser open.  most likely you are a victim of spyware.  install ad-aware or spybot s&d to scan and remove any offending programs.  then download hijackthis and check for bho's.  if you're having trouble, google a hijackthis forum.  they'll have more experienced users with knowledge.  just post your hijackthis report there and they'll tell you what to remove.

No universal serial controller on my acer t180

Hi there. You need to update/install your chipset drivers.
This link will give you the chipset drivers:

You should notice that this driver is for XP. It should still work, but there is currently no chipset support for Vista on your product. If the above drivers don't work, then you can download the BIOS update from here:

You will need to select your specific pc (Desktop, Aspire, Aspire T180), then click on the BIOS tab, download and install.

Missing Network Icon From Device Manager

This is most likely a hardware problem. Your network adapter is probably faulty, therefore the system does not recognize it.

You can try to reinstall it, but if the system is not recognizing it now, the chances of it recognizing the device during install are low. I have included a link to the driver download if you choose to attempt to reinstall the device.

If reinstalling the device does not work, you have a couple of options. The easiest and least expensive would be to install a new ethernet adapter. These can be purchased at many computer and electronics stores and are fairly easy to install and configure. If your PC is under warranty, you can contact Acer for a warranty repair.

Is acer aspire t180 compatible to smartbro plan 999 internet?

it gives you a connection only that you did not check the box thats say show icon in notification area when connected.go to my network connection in the control panel and click on your connection and select properties. you will see the box below

No internet signal between router and desktop pc.

have you plugged everything in with the modem off and the router off?
have you tried unplugging the linksys for a sec then plug it back in?
also have you checked the pin connection on the plug on both the computer and the router?
what are the lights indicating?

Acer maybe not offer 64 bit driver for t180, however maybe you can use this driver.
