If you have a CONVERGENCE problem and it will not adjust---the two STK-392-150 Chips this set uses need to both be replaced and the set adjusted with the original remote control.
You can, if you are able to do the repair, buy a pair of chips for less than 14 dollars plus shipping on Ebay.
If you cannot do the repair--shop around your area--most shops are going to charge 300 or more for this kind of repair.
When you consider the cost of the parts--if you can do it or know someone who can--you can save the set and a lot of money--This repair can easily be done right in your home in about 1 hour--I know as I have done hundreds of them---did two today.
The chips (with the back off of the set) should be on two metal heat sinks on the board on the far left---they will be facing the front of the set.
All that is required to get at them is to remove all the plugs on that board and the screws that hold it in and tilt it up so the bottom of the board is in view---you unsolder both chips (about 18 pins each) and remove the 2 screws that hold each to a heat sink.
With 2 new chips you put heat sink compound on the back of each--it is a white grease to move heat quickly from the chip to the metal, and solder both chips in----put the board back down and all the plugs back(I usually mark all of them so I know where they go) and turn the set on and see what you have...
Most of the time this repairs the set--go into the customer menu and adjust the convergence and you are ready for another 5-8 years of life---this is the normal lifespan of these chips.

Sony KP53S65. When unit powers on the sound starts up but the picture takes longer to display. The picture then blinks on and off periodically for a minute or two before it remains on and works properly. The picture tint seems much redder than usual, could this have something to do power up issue? I opened the unit and vaccuumed/blew out all the dust, windexed the tubes and mirror. I then turned it back on with the back open and looked into the tubes while it was on. The Red and blue tubes have a clear image however the green tube image does not look nearly as distinct as the other two. Picture is crisp and sharp once it stops blinking except for the reddish tint. Could this all be the result of one problem and if so what do you think it is?
