Problem for Canon MP470 Pixma All in One Printer

Is there a way to force the scanner to only use

Is there a way to force the scanner to only use the black ink cartridge? I have an empty color cartridge and my documents will not scan until I replace the color one, but I never scan/print color stuff anyway. Is the only solution to buy the color cartridge?

no just buy new ink cartridges at a place online called computer geeks.com they are the cheapest that i know.
