Sony have just released version 5.2, i had the same problem and i downloaded the firmware, it was a big upgrade as the facia kept changing a lot, but once done it played all my discs and was able to read them quicker.
You will need to download the firmware and burn the files to a cd-rom disc. First you double click on the downloaded file to extract the files to a folder. Then you will need to use the "burn image" setting in your cd burning software on your computer and burn those files to a cd-r disc. Periodic upgrades will be needed with the player to be compatible with the new format of Blu-Ray discs. The full instructions are on the web page.
