Question about Apple iPod classic MP3 Player

2 Answers

4G iPod about 4 months ago, my ipod began to make a lot of noise when playing songs. Just this last week, it suddenly stopped working and displays a file folder message in the display and a message suggesting to take it to the support genius bar. I have had it in there for the noise, and all they told me was I needed to buy a new one. Any ideas on what to do - I don't have money to buy a new one.

The folder icon usually indicates a hard drive issue. You could buy a new hard drive on eBay, open up the iPod and replace the current one.

It may also be one of a few other easily fixed things (although I haven't ran into those cases unfortunately. Here are the instructions from apple.

Same thing happend to my 3G, it was under warranty and they gave me a new one. I'm pretty sure it is broken (otherwise they would have fixed it)

I own an Apple Ipod video which I bought in 2006. It worked just fine for about 9 months at which point I could not get any sound(music) from the headphones or when plugged in via the usb dock to my car...

If all your music is in iTunes, format and restore the iPod to a Mac formatted iPod in iTunes. There are some firmware updates as well, which restoring will give you, and these should help. After doing so, iTunes will copy all your music back to the ipod.

My ipod middle button doesnt work what can i do help

This usually happens if the membrane of the action button deteriorates and the gold plated contacts between membrane and logic board do no longer establish good contact.
There are specialized online tutorials with iPod Repair instructions that will guide you through the steps of taking it apart and cleaning the contact or replacing the button altogether otherwise you'll have to send it to any third party iPod repair service and they'll replace the membrane for you.

Ipod problem - playing songs in order

sounds like you need a new hard drive, which has a little read-write disk in it that is getting finicky... just to get more use out of it lay it on side or other positions and hear if works ok...if so its diffently Hard drive. you know the sandisks are 2 gigs no moving parts why doesnt somebody put 20 together making 40 gigs and replace the failing Ipods!!??? just pure electronics and no moving parts and much smaller...not like a hard drive. I thought of this over 30 years ago looking at the first plug in video game.
