SHARP VL-H875 PROBLEMS

HI! I am having a problem with my Sharp Viewcam Model VL-H875. When I insert an 8mm tape and close the cassette door, the cam attempts to play (the picture on the screen is frozen momentarily) and EJECT begins to flash on my LCD screen. I had it stored for about 6 months prior to just taking it out to watch home movies, and it worked fine when I packed it away. I tried many different 8mm recorded cassettes, but I get the same error EJECT each time I insert another one in. I cannot find a manual anywhere online for this model. Have any ideas or suggestions or know where I can find a replacement manual for this thing? Sharp's customer service is aweful! Tried calling many times and the hold time is rediculous. THANK YOU!!!!

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

SOURCE: Sharp Viewcam VL-AH151U keeps saying "eject cassette"

Assuming the record tab is in the correct position, download the manual for the VL-AH150U, very close to the 151U.
Page 10 of the manual shows the normal reasons for the "eject cassette" message. If not, I would call Sharp support at
1-800-BE-SHARP (237-4277) for referral to a local repair center.
Let me know if this helps.

SOURCE: what type of cassette do i need for a sharp VL-A10

You need to use a tape that says 8mm or Video8 only. I have provided a link to the type of tape that we would use.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MP-Video8-tape-120min/dp/B0009WUCG6/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1284056100&sr=1-7

There are tapes that say Hi8 and Dig8 on them. These tapes will not work properly in your camcorder because they are the wrong format. Your camcorder would probably chew the tape at some point if you tried to use this kind.

Hope this has helped.

SOURCE: I have a Sharp Viewcam

The chances are that a switchcontact or motor is not engaging, and the unit will have to be opened up to be fixed.
Oftentimes, with these older units, switch or relay contacts become oxidized over time, and fail. It sounds crazy, but one fix (without having to open the camcorder) is to give it a bump with the palm of a hand. I used to do withis with my old Olympus, and that's the only way I could get it to work, without spending a few hours taking it apart.
You can always go by a tv or camera repair shop and see what they think. Get an estimate before having it repaired, since it might be better just to upgrade.
You can contact Sharp for support here:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

This camcorder is at least six years old now, and replacements are available quite cheaply vie on-line auction sites, probably at far less than the cost of repair.

The "DEW" indicator is illuminated on my Viewcam, what do I do to turn it off?

This means there is moisture inside the Viewcam. Try taking the tape out, leaving the cassette compartment open for 2 hours to allow any condensation to evaporate. If the DEW indicator is still illuminated call a Sharp authorized servicer.

Why does the Sharp Viewcam ® use the 8mm format?

At Sharp, we feel that 8mm is the best tape format available due to the small, compact size, long 2-1/2 hour record time, and high quality audio/video performance.
