My opener will work if I hold the wall button down

My Quantum 3212 opener will work if I hold the wall button down through the entire cycle. If I just push the button and let go, it only travels about 12 inches and returns. What can I do?

Sounds like your door sensors are out of alignment or have gone bad. They each have a small light that should be on and not flickering for them to work properly. Tweak them a bit to get them aligned and check. If you can't get both lights to come on you either have bad wiring to them or a sensor that has gone bad.
