You may find that the saftey switch on the door is not working.Unplug the washer and disconnect the wires at the switch and join them together. This will by-pass the switch and make it think that the lid is closed and safe to operate. Plug the washer back in and see if it works, if it does then you have found the problem. However if you have children, you may want to replace the switch, as it will not stop when the lid is opened.
