Question about HP Compaq dc7600 PC Desktop

Add in Video Card

I am trying to add a pci video card to the dc7600.

I installed the card, and, having read in the specification sheet that this will disable the onboard video which will have to be reactivated using the BOIS, I plugged in another monitor to the new card.

The computer will not boot. I get a succession of 6 beeps repeating over and over.

Any ideas?

Re: Add in Video Card

Did you disable the onboard video card in the BIOS after installing the new PCIx video card? Do you get this error with the onboard video enabled? This may help if not please let me know. Are the LEDs flashing colors? I will be more than happy to help you through your problem.
Blank screen and the power LED flashes Red six times, once every second, followed by a two second pause, and the computer beeps six times. (Beeps stop after fifth iteration but LEDs continue flashing.) Pre-video graphics error. For systems with a graphics card: 1. Reseat the graphics card. Power on the system. 2. Replace the graphics card. 3. Replace the system board. For systems with integrated graphics, replace the system board.

Re: Add in Video Card

Yes 6 beeps indicates that there is no video card. Remove the card and plug into another PCI slot as some like to be the first PCI bus used. You will more than likely have to remove a sound card or some other interface do this plug in your new card into the slot and power on.

If there is still 6 beeps there are two possibilities
1 The Video PCI card id faulty
2 The Card is not compatible with your machine.

I do hope this helps you you also may check that you don't have to disable the card within the bios settings as sometimes even though the hand book tell you it should auto change sometime you will have to do this manually.

Thanks J

I wanna know what video cards will fit my DC7600 convertible minitower

Your PC has a PCI-e x16 slot available for upgrading graphics cacapabilities. Any PCI-e x16 that is not double-slot wide or that requires a pcie power plug should work. If you take a look at the images at you can see which NVIDIA (Geforce) and Radeon based cards are double wide. Your PC just doesn't have the physical space for a fit. For Radeon cards 3000 series and below with the exception of not higher that an HD 3650 in the 3000 series. For NVIDIA based cards in the 7000 series and lower with a couple of exceptions. 8000 series: nothing higher than an 8600 model. 9000 series is a no go.
Your PSU is not capable of running the cards I mentioned as exceptions. Your PSU is less than 300W. Powerful video cards require more wattage and extra PCIe specific power connectors. Read the specs to ensure that the video card you are considering does not have any additional power requirements.
You can link to the cards you are considering and we will let you know if the will fit and work and why they will not if they are exceptions.

Got a dc7600, need to add 2 more monitors, as video cards in my other computers will not fit (too large for slot)..if i can , i need a video card with two slots to attach both monitors or get 2 video...

Which part of the video-cards are "too large" -- the electronic circuitry, or just the "spine"?

If just the "spine" is too tall, then unscrew the spine from the card, and attach a shorter spine.
Or, if you are "brave", then run "*****" -- don't attach any "spine" to the video-card.
Just connect the VGA/DVI cable from the monitor directly to the video-card.

I have an ATI - Radeon AGP HD 3450 512 mb video card. can i use it in my hp compaq dc7600 ultra slim with any problems.? can someone please help me out.thanks.

Hi Michael,

The HP DC7600 Ultra Slim Desktop only has either onboard Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset graphics or a single PCI slot for you to add a PCI (not PCI-express) graphics card.

The system board does have a PCI-express slot, however this is not fully implimented by HP and is only used to run a secondary additional monitor from the onboard Intel Chipset graphics when used with an HP-specific adapter.

AGP is not present on the system board and is therefore not supported.

On a related note, also be aware that some PCI graphics cards required the PCI 2.2 bus standard to be supported in the PC - I have no idea if the Ultra-Slim actually supports this, so do further research to ensure compatability before purchase of any PCI graphics card for your machine.

Good luck!

How can I add firewire to my HP s5730f slimline when the pci express slots are blocked? Is there a pci card I can use to add firewire?

Hi, yes, you should be able to add a firewire card that goes into a spare PCI slot inside your computer. I have provided some links for you to have a look at.

When you say your pci express slots are blocked, do you mean that you have a card, likely a video card, already installed in your pci express slot? You should have available pci slots anyway and you can purchase a fireward card and install it yourself. If you are unsure about this then you can do a search on youtube as there are lots of how to videos on there regarding this type of installation. Good luck. Andrew

What type of graphics card would I need to upgrade

Open the case.
Is there an add-on video-card, or is the video "integrated" onto the motherboard?

If not, then look at the "empty" slots for add-on cards.

The WHITE coloured slots will take a PCI (not PCI-Express) video-card.

If there is a BROWN slot that does *NOT* line-up with the ends of the WHITE slots, the slot will take an AGP video-card.

If there a DARK-coloured slot that *ALMOST* lines-up with the end of the WHITE slots, the slot will take a PCI-express video-card.

I have a HP dc7600 SFF. Tried to Install 2 graphics cards no vid

The dc7600 SFF only comes equipped with a 240 watt power supply. I think this may be causing your problems.

I am currently looking for a graphics card for the same comp with the HIS ATI HD 4350 in mind, but the website states that a 300 watt power supply is recommended.

I was adding memory card and installed it backwards, powered up and now the monitor is not working did i short out the motherboard?

it is possible. what was the memory card... or do you mean you tried to add more memory. also do you have a pci video card or are you using the internal memory ?. a quick fix if it's only the memory that has failed is to get a video card and add it.
