Question about HP Compaq dc7600 PC Desktop

Add in Video Card

I am trying to add a pci video card to the dc7600.

I installed the card, and, having read in the specification sheet that this will disable the onboard video which will have to be reactivated using the BOIS, I plugged in another monitor to the new card.

The computer will not boot. I get a succession of 6 beeps repeating over and over.

Any ideas?

    Thanks for your comments.

I did not disable the onboard video before installing the pci card. The documentation (page 21 of the quickspecs) says that installing with a pci-express or pci card automatically disables the onboard video, but it can be reenabled vie the BIOS.

I think jaylex probably has it right. The pci card was probably not compatible with the machine, although you would think that it would at least boot to an error screen. I tried the newest Diamond Stealth pci card I had in my box of old video cards, but it only had 64mb of memory. I will probably get a pci-express dual output card and try that.

By the way, whatever happened to the AGP slot?

Did you disable the onboard video card in the BIOS after installing the new PCIx video card? Do you get this error with the onboard video enabled? This may help if not please let me know. Are the LEDs flashing colors? I will be more than happy to help you through your problem.
Blank screen and the power LED flashes Red six times, once every second, followed by a two second pause, and the computer beeps six times. (Beeps stop after fifth iteration but LEDs continue flashing.) Pre-video graphics error. For systems with a graphics card: 1. Reseat the graphics card. Power on the system. 2. Replace the graphics card. 3. Replace the system board. For systems with integrated graphics, replace the system board.

Yes 6 beeps indicates that there is no video card. Remove the card and plug into another PCI slot as some like to be the first PCI bus used. You will more than likely have to remove a sound card or some other interface do this plug in your new card into the slot and power on.

If there is still 6 beeps there are two possibilities
1 The Video PCI card id faulty
2 The Card is not compatible with your machine.

I do hope this helps you you also may check that you don't have to disable the card within the bios settings as sometimes even though the hand book tell you it should auto change sometime you will have to do this manually.

Thanks J

My display is white. I have a pci express slot open can I add a pci express video card to solve the problem?

The monitor may be faulty and not the video card, try a different monitor first to determine if the video card is faulty.
If the video card is faulty then install a video card in the PCI express expansion slot. You may have to turn off the on-board video card in the BIOS.

I have an ATI - Radeon AGP HD 3450 512 mb video card. can i use it in my hp compaq dc7600 ultra slim with any problems.? can someone please help me out.thanks.

Hi Michael,

The HP DC7600 Ultra Slim Desktop only has either onboard Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset graphics or a single PCI slot for you to add a PCI (not PCI-express) graphics card.

The system board does have a PCI-express slot, however this is not fully implimented by HP and is only used to run a secondary additional monitor from the onboard Intel Chipset graphics when used with an HP-specific adapter.

AGP is not present on the system board and is therefore not supported.

On a related note, also be aware that some PCI graphics cards required the PCI 2.2 bus standard to be supported in the PC - I have no idea if the Ultra-Slim actually supports this, so do further research to ensure compatability before purchase of any PCI graphics card for your machine.

Good luck!

Can you use the onboard video card and a PCI video card at the same time with the 945gtp mother board?

i dont think it does, but even the spec sheet from intel doesnt say for sure.

the only thing ths spec sheet says about it is that if you use a pci-e add-in vidoe card, the onboard video is disabled, so im guessing the integrated video isnt compatible with multiple views or cards.

I have a HP dc7600 SFF. Tried to Install 2 graphics cards no vid

The dc7600 SFF only comes equipped with a 240 watt power supply. I think this may be causing your problems.

I am currently looking for a graphics card for the same comp with the HIS ATI HD 4350 in mind, but the website states that a 300 watt power supply is recommended.

Intel 845 glly board please solve the problem

Hi Nadeem Nawaz,

No board will show display without memory. Your motherboard must run memory type;
Two DIMM sockets supporting 3.3 V (only) 168-pin 133 MHz Single Data Rate (SDR) SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts.
Unbuffered non-ECC DIMMs only.
Maximum total system memory: 2 GB; minimum total system memory: 64 MB.
Serial Presence Detect (SPD) DIMMs only.

Intel link showing memory specifications.
Intel Desktop Board D845GLLY
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845glly/sb/cs-012825.htm

If your memory is within Intel's memory specifications & you are not getting display on your monitor. It is possible that the integerated on board graphics (Shown on page 13 in your user manual), may be defective.
You can add a PCI video card to the PC. The Intel D845GLLY will auto detect the PCI video card. No need to enter the bios & make changes.
Please keep this in mind. The integrated video card is PCI, if it has failed, there is a good chance it will not see the PCI add in video card. If you can find a used (Working) PCI video card to test in the PC.

Installed GeForce 8500 GT PCI-E video card and pc will not turn on

If your mboard has a builtin video card you should configure that b4 u can use that add on card.

1. connect the add on card.
2. connect the monitor to the built in VGA.
3. start system and press "F2 or Delete" to go to bios setup.
4. on bios setup " refer to the manual on installing addon PCI express card".
you find it here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us.

or enlosed in the board.

After configuring your system restart and unplug in the wall outlet and then connect the monitor in the add on card.

Hope you find in order.
