My camera is saying 'lens error' whenever I try to

Well, I'm afraid this is exactly what's happening - there is a problem with the lens. If you haven't dropped your camera and the message just started occurring "on its own", then chances are that there is some dirt stuck in the lens mechanism. You might be lucky and get it to work by gently tapping the camera to shift the obstruction. Apart from this I'm not aware of any other way of fixing this short of dismantling the camera and stripping the lens mechanism (which unfortunately is a bit of a pain with this particular camera :(
