Problem for Compaq Presario 700 (470024-192) PC Notebook
Screen goes black after login

I have a compaq presario c700 and after my computer starts up and after i put in my password the screen goes black but the backlight is still on. Any ideas as to why and what i can do.

boot in safe mode or vga mode by holding f8 on startup. If you can see vga or safe mode the resoution is too high for the card or monitor. Once in via reduced mode uninstall your video driver and reboot. If it tries to add a driver make sure to set the resolution lower. If low resolution doesn't work then you may have a hardware problem.
