My GE monogram built in refrigerator is not staying cold

my GE monogram built in side by side refrigerator is not staying cold. Model number is ZISB48DSB. A tech guy said it may be a freon leak but not sure if I agree with him. He cleaned the dust in and around it. We also replaced the defrost timer once before. I emptied the refrigerator/freezer turned off the unit and left it alone for about 2-3 days and now its starting to get cold a little bit. What could it possibly be and what else can I do without have to pay my tech guy $800 to do a freon leak test that may/may not be the problem?
