Washer displays F 06 what does this mean?

The "F6" on a whirlpool front load washer indicated the the ccu (central control unit) has detected a communication error between the motor and mcu (motor control unit) or/and between the mcu and ccu. This can be caused by several possible faults.

**before doing any service, unplug the unit from the wall/120vac source outlet**

1) The tach on the motor is defective, or a wire to it has come loose or severed.

2) the wire harness between the motor and mcu or between the mcu & ccu is loose or become disconnected.

3) the motor itself is defective.

4) the mcu itself is defective.

Now, I know this sounds like a lot to one at first, but there should be a built in aid for you on your washer. If you remove the lower access panel at the front, there should be a diagnostic guide or tech sheet taped to the inside of the panel or to the left or right of the inside cabinet walls.

Within this "guide" you'll find "ohm values" and voltages to allow you to check these component's, I'd suspect primarily the motor (because I don't think you can purchase the tach seperately). But you'll have to go over that wiring harness thoroughly first, before you go replacing parts, it won't take much more than 1 stupid loose wire to affect the hole darn machine.

The first step in toubleshooting this problem is to check all the connector plugs between the Drive Motor, MCU and CCU. Check for loose connections and then unplug each connector and plug them back in (one at a time) to ensure they are snug and making good contact.

NOTE: You only to check the connectors that affect the drive motor and MCU circuitry.

If the tachometer is determined to be the cause of the problem, it is part of the MCU. The MCU will require replacement. For more in depth troubleshooting tips refer to your tehcnical data sheet that came with the washer. It is located inside the washer behind the lower toe panel. You will need to locate and remove the screws under the bottom front edge of the toe panel. Once removed, the panel will drop down, then come off. If the tech sheet isn't located directly behind the panel, it will be affixed to one of the interior cabinet walls. The tech sheet includes all error codes, test points, dianostic procedures and helpful illustrations to assist in troubleshooting and repair of your washer.
