Go to http://www.hp.com and search using your printer model, for the manual and printer guide. They will be able to give you exactly what you need to troubleshoot the printer. In many cases, they can actually troubleshoot the problem while you are at their web site, and help you fix the problem.

The teardrop is an ink drop. Yes the light indicates that an ink cartridge needs to be changed. It may not be completely empty so you might want to buy the replacement cartridge and have it ready to change when the ink runs out or the printer stops printing.
