Can't download photos. Computer goes into safe...

I connected my binocs to the USB cable. When I click on "My Camera" my computer goes into Safe mode and a window pops up and says that there is nothing in the camera. I have made 3 photos and the binoc screen shows I have 17 remaining. Why can't it find the photos? I am beginning to get the impression that Vivitar has created a piece of junk and not giving decent instructions and troubleshooting solutions in their short-on-info operations manual.
