speedstream 6520 and PS3 NAT3 I can't get a nat 2 even after enabling dmz and redirecting appropriate ports. what gives? the ps3 is hard wired to the 6520, and I'm not using any of its wireless features as of now.

- thanks. I'll try and let you know.

- I verified that I have the latest firmware installed, though I admit dealing with my ISP is a challenge. However, I received an additional port to forward from the PS3 folk, 3658, and when i try to forward it I get the message that it's already locked by the system for another application. How do i determine which application is using it, and how do i free it? I'm trying this with two separate computers, both running XP, but with totally different programs loaded on them.

Nov 09, 2009

- Ok. a couple of things. I used your check port routine and, lo, the ports are not open, despite setting them in the router. There's one additional problem also. PS3 states that port 3658 should also be open, but I get an error when I try to enable it that states it's in use by the system elsewhere. How do I find what app is using and locking this port? I've tried it with two computers, both running XP, but handling a totally different set of software apps.

I'll play with my ISP-provided firewall and see if i can sort through the port issue on the others. I'm not a terribly experienced user, so I appreciate any and all advice. Thanks for steering me this far.

Nov 11, 2009

- hey, thanks. it shows that 3658 isn't being utilized, which is more in keeping with what I would have expected. I guess that means I need to look at my router more closely. ??? Unfortunately, my ISP isn't assisting in the least. Should i be looking at a different type of router for gaming? Living in the boonies, I only have access to DSL so I am rather limited.....

Nov 11, 2009

- Thanks. I think that's where I'm at. My ISP is of NO help whatsoever. Since I'm so far out in the boonies, I'm stuck with DSL. Can you recommend a router/modem that will improve my gaming?? ( i realize the limitations, but would like to optimize whatever i can)

Nov 11, 2009

- Thanks. I will try resetting and let you know. This may take me a day or so ......

Nov 12, 2009

- since I was unable to do a hard reset on the router, the ISP is going to be supplying me with a new router today. I will try that out and let you know. If i have the same issue, I'll try a different brand and be done with it. Thanks for all of the help.

Nov 12, 2009

- Yes. I have been supplied with enough info to get my ISP to replace the router. If I still have issues, I now know an appropriate router to select. Thanks so much for all the help.

Since you already tried doing port forwarding and DMZ on the router for your PS3 and still having NAT3 , the only thing that you need to do here is to do a firmware upgrade , you can get the latest firmware of the router from your Internet Service Provider and that should fix that problem.....

- What happen are you done with the firmware upgrade just let me know if it work or no thank you....

Nov 10, 2009

- If after playing and changing settings on your router and still having the same problem its already a sign of a problem with the router/gateway that you have and better have it replace.........

Nov 12, 2009

- If after the reset and still have the same problem I will advice you to try a different DSL Gateway like the one from 2wire they will work fine for this gaming problem.....

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

It sounds like the modem either got confused or the firewall blocked the connections. To fix this, try resetting the modem.

To reset the modem, be sure to have the software handy. If you do not have the cd-rom, you can download the software free of charge from the manufacturer's website.

On the back of the modem is a small pin hole. Press in the button using a pen or paper clip for 15 minutes. You will see the front lights blink as you do this.

Connect the modem directly to one computer and run the installation disk or downloaded software. Follow the wizard to successfully configure the modem.

This will fix any and all problems and save you troubleshooting time.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Hi Bluerock,

Have you setup a port forwarding for the PS3. HERE's a link that will explain how to set that up. That should work. If not post back, there are a few other tricks you can do witht the 6520.

Good Luck,

Mark

- Bluerock,

Ok, You can check the ports being used by going to start run enter netstat -a and a window will appear showing all the ports being used and what programs are using them. Start there and see if your port is even open. Post back the results
