The traegger will not heat up past 350 degrees

Unfortunately, it's not realistically designed to heat above 250 -275 Degrees F. No matter what they call it, it's still a smoker, more than it is a grill. Even the Owner's Manual says the the optimal operation temperature is 180 to 200 degrees F. It's not designed to sear steaks.

Perhaps, if it was made of cast iron, rather than sheet steel, you could get the temp up past 350 degrees. If you really want a true smoker/grill, pay $700 to $800 and buy a Big Green Egg. And you wont have to buy some specialized pellets to burn in it. Just good old fashioned lump charcoal or wood chunks.

I wish I had better news for you, but it is what it is. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Our grill will not light. When the knob is pressed in and turned to 'light' I can see a light inside, but it's like it's not catching and it won't light up. Each burner is doing this....

It sounds like your grill may have a glo plug type of ignition system if there is a light inside the grill instead of a spark to light each burner. If your grill is hard wired to the house elelctrical, it may be that a breaker is tripped and the power is not getting to the glo plug and the grill us using a battery back up to try and light the grill. The batterys do not last long, and when they get weak, the plug will glow, but not hot enough to light the grill. The other possibility is that you have a short, or some other problem, that is preventing enough voltage to reach the glo plug, the plug will glow, but not hot enough to light the grill.

zonfish - if you're tuning the gas tank off at each use, as you should. The problem lies in your grill's gas regulator, but it also is not a big deal and is easily solved.

Whenever, you open the tank valve, do it VERY, VERY, SLOWLY (Slow Motion, slow), until it is fully open. Then light the burners.

What happens is this, LP Gas Grill Tanks are now equipped with an Overfill Protection Device ("OPD"). And often time, when you turn the valve on like you would normally do, the OPD Valve sends a hot load of gas to your grill's regulator and partially locks it up or locks up entirely. Therefore, the burners are not getting enough gas to heat the unit up to 500 degrees. Opening the valve very, very, slowly, overcomes this problem.

I hope this helped you and Happy Grilling.

BBQ won't get hot enough. What can I do? There is plenty of propane. Pete

I suspect the problem, is a result of either dirty and/or clogged burners and venturi valves (part of the burner). Or the grills gas regulator is partially locked close.

Since the regulator problem does not involve any real dismantling of the grill, I'll start with that solution first.

1. Turn the gas valve on the tank OFF. Remove the grill grates and flame tamers, so that you
clearly see all the burners.
2. Disconnect the hose from the tank and wait 5 minutes.
3, Reconnect the hose to the tank and turn the tank valve ON, VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow
Motion, slow).
4. Once he tank valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and turn the burner
knob to HIGH. Dose the flame height look correct? If so, light the remaining burners the same
way, until are are lit and burning. Do all the flame heights look correct when set on HIGH? If so,
you solved the problem.

If the above did not solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's Hose/Regulator Assembly. You can purchase one from any home center or hardware store that sells gas grills and accessories. They run about $30.00. Take you old one with you for comparison purposes.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know and Happy Grilling!!

When we light the grill the burners only have a low flame. We can't turn it up to a high enough flame.

Hopefully this will fix you up. Follow exactly.
  1. Turn off the gas at the propane tank
  2. Disconnect the gas line from the tank
  3. Open the grill lid
  4. Turn all control valves to high
  5. Wait for about a minute
  6. Turn all control valves to off
  7. Reconnect the gas line to the tank
  8. SLOWLY turn on the gas at the tank
  9. Light the grill normally
  10. Your grill should now heat normally

It doesn't heat high enough

If you turn on the burners before you turn on the propane tank a safety device on the regulator (little grey device attached to the hose an tank) will limit the gas flow. As a result the grill will not get above ~300 degrees.

I bet your grill gets no hotter than about 300 with the lid closed?

The tank has a built in safety feature. If a burner is left on when you open the valve on the tank, or turned on too soon immediately after opening the valve on the tank, the flow will be restricted. You need to turn all burners off, close the tank valve, disconnect the tank, reconnect the tank, open the tank valve, waqit a few seconds, open the burner valve and light. You'll get unrestricted flow and much better heat.

Flame not hot

If the propane tank is full, it could be the pressure regulator. Some regulators have an adjustment screw on the top.
If it's REALLY cold outside, the propane may not be evaporating fast enough to keep the pressure up. Also on a cold or windy day, heat is drawn away from the grill very quickly, and it may be difficult to keep the temperature up inside.

Good luck!
