Do you hear hissing anywhere? If so there's you problem (possible the drain on the tank bottom?) Otherwise your piston is likely worn. I don;t know what you're using this for. For the average Joe there are a number of high-quality low-cost compressors out there for <$100 (harbor freight). Look for a high HP/GAL ration 2hp - 5gal is ideal. Pancake compressors are nice and portable but lack the volume for higher-demand air tools. I prefer cast-iron 'oil' ones for longevity.
