Open the lens

Not sure what you mean - do you want to open the lens?? Normally that happens when you press the 'on' button. Ther are a couple of things I can think of to check. Are you in the picture viewing mode - if so the lens will usually remain closed - change to the camera mode. Have you dropped or knocked the camera while the lens were open ?? If so, you will possibly have jammed the lens which will stop it from rotating - which means it won't open out fully. Does it make unusual grating sounds ?? Unusual noises and lens that won't come out means take it and have it serviced - or get a quote anyway as new lens units will probably cost as much as a new camera. Please - More info needed than just 3 words.
