When a movie is playing, you can hear all sounds except the actors voices....they are mumbled.

The voices are probably coming out on one of the channels that has a bad speaker, bad wire, loose connector, or bad output. If you have the audio set to 5.1 output, change it to two-channel stereo output. The voices should return to normal.

Gateway dx4840-11e. During video can hear music but not actor voices. What to do?

do you have the sound set to surrond sound? What it sounds like is that it is trying to play through surrond speakers but you dont have them, which is why you can hear the music and not the actors voices. click with the right mouse button on the speaker in the bottom right of your screen, then click on sounds , now click on the playback tab in the sound window, click on the sound device shown and then click configure, choose stereo and choose two speakers. Continue to the end then try to play the video and see if you can now hear the voices. If you cant then you maybe missing codecs needed to play the audio correctly. Please state if this is a movie you have downloaded or a dvd film on disc etc

When playing a movie i can hear the music but can't hear the actors voice

Hello

OK, you will need to have a look in the sound menu to change the channels trough which the movie is being played. Have a look on your remote, if you cannot find it, press menu and scroll to the sound menu.

This is only a setting, so do not worry, if you cannot find it yourself, you will be able to download the manual HERE.

Kind regards
Andrea

No English language on DVD 's

Bought a new unit. The old unit was a surround sound system in which the previous owner removed the speakers. I wasn't aware of the problem but found out that it would not allow it to play on Dolby 5.1...It would only play DVD's on channel 2, therefore no english etc. Thanks for your help!!!

Backround sound is fine but voices speaking are muted

I'm not sure of this system but if this was mine I would say it sounds like your playing this in a 2-Channel mode which eliminate the center channel.
you music may be set up fine, but the mode you play a dvd in may be set up for 2-channel mode. try a dolby prologic 5-channel or some other mode if you have one.

I can hear the background music, but not what actors are saying

You need to adjust the equalizer on your media player. You can use any pre-defined equalizer settings.
