Question about Sony NWZ-A816 Digital Media Player
I have a Sony Walkman NWZ-A816. Out of the box it charged and I was able to fill it with music. While using it it crashed and would not reset. I ran the battery down and now it won't charge. I can't get any USB to even recognize the it when it's plugged into the port. Please help.
I had the same problem my mp3 would not charge. To fix connect the mp3 to your computer with the usb cable, go to Device manger open up portable devices you should see a small yellow triangle (this is telling you some thing is wrong) right click over walkman and choose up date driver .windows will use hardware wizard on the net to fix the driver. This worked for me i hope it fixes your problem

My computer did not recognize the player even after resetting. Here is what worked in my XP machine. Connected the player to the computer. Start - control panel - system - hardware - device manager - Universal serial bus contollers. The Walkman appeared with a yellow symbol. Right click on it and click delete. Take the player out. Reboot. Connect the player. Hopefully this will work for you.

I had the same problem. Battery ran down, screen frozen. I reset it using a pin. The reset button is located on the lower right hand side next to the metal loop used for a strap. reset is engraved right next to it. Once I did that it rebooted and works fine.

I went through this for the last six months, and I have xp and vista. In xp, it would work, drag and drop, but on vista, I kept getting the mtp device error code 10. I finally chose the usb option it gives under the update drivers, then choose choose drivers yourself, then choice will be USB mass storage I think I chose, then suddenly, my CONNECT came on! I am soooo happy, now after four months I can add songs!!!!

Start, control panel, (on category view on Windows XP open performance and maintenance next then...), Administrative tools, Computer management, Device manager (under system tools), right click WALKMAN (with the yellow triangle beside it) and select update driver. continue with the instructions. this completely worked for me :) GOOD LUCK :D

Whenever I would hook mine up via USB wall charger or a PC, it would just tell me LOW BATTERY please charge.
I figured it was a bad battery, but I had it connected to my PC right now and hit reset a bunch of times (It hadn't worked before) and suddenly it's starting to charge.
So if you've run out of patience try hitting your reset button a ton of times while mashing other buttons, it actually worked for me....

For all the new people reading this, its an easy fix. Get an old tooth brush and dip it in some white spirit, then thuroughly clean the connections between the MP3 player and USB cable.
Hey presto, fixed.
Thank you and good night.

I'm considering this player but after seeing how many people can't charge it it seems iffy to me. I still don't have it yet but I have an on the wall charger USB to the wall then just plug the usb cable to the player. if someone has that would u mind trying to do that and reply to see if that works? cuz thats how I charge my old ones that i broke, oh another question is even if it doesnt charge can it still transfer music? from pc to the player?

Sony walkman nwz-s618f with the same issue: SOLVED!
Plug the power/USB cable on your computer (or on a iPhone usb power adapter) and press/hold [play/pause] [home/back] [pwr off/option] buttons until the "os" finishes to load (progression bar). That's it. I hope it will work for you too.

My problem is that it doesn't seem to charge... it says it's connected, the image on the player is normal, I can access my files, but when I unplug it, the thing won't stay on, it turns off after a few seconds every time.
I'll try a wall charger later and see. Thank you everyone.

This player has been nothing but trouble, i have the nwz-a816 and it will only recharge if i hit reset. Now since it only shows up on any computer as an uknown device that is in-accessible, i think its safe to say i threw one hundred dollars out the window.... Junk, Lightweight, attractive looking-junk.

Hi, a wall charger (available at electronic stores) with the USB cable supplied with the walkman works well when you cannot charge it from the laptop.

I have a sony mp3 player NWZ-S615F. It is doing the same thing. It worked for about a month. Then I couldn't add songs. It would take a while for me to get it to charge the battery. Now it won't recognize it at all. I can't charge it. I have tried several times to reload the disc and have tried several ports on my computer to no avail.

My Sony NWZ-S639F fails to turn on. I pressed reset and it told me battery low and to recharge. I plugged in and the initial display came up . The blue line at the bottom of the display got three quarters of the way across the bottom and stopped and goes no further. Nothing happens from there. Reset and it does the same. HELP!!! Love the player but PLEASE COME BACK TO ME!!!!
