Packard bell Easynote L4 won't turn on. No lights, sounds, nothing. Took battery out plugged in adapter....nothing. Kept adapter plugged in to see if it got warm...it did. Adapter must be working then. Any ideas?

Borrowed a mate's multi-meter, power adapter no good. Problem solved.

Bought a new power adapter from ebay (about £15). However, a couple of months later, tripped over the lead while it was plugged in and it wasn't long before the laptop was dead. I had damaged the dc jack and it needed replacing. Bought a new one from ebay (about £5), googled for some disassembly hints, bought a disassembly manual from 9manuals and took laptop apart. Once the motherboard was out I got an electrician friend from work to do the soldering. There are sites that talk you through this step in great detail though (http://www.laptopsockets.co.uk/new_jack_range.htm). This seems to be quite a common problem with laptops, but cheap to fix if you attempt it yourself. Mine has been back up and running again for 6 months now.
I have the same problem. what do you do now you've realised your power supply is no good? which bit is no good; the fuse in the plug? the AC Adapter cuboid?
