Well that helped some, but not to the extent I need. Try CPU-Z from CPUID.com, it's much better than Belarc Advisor as previously recommended. (It is also a free program, and is very tiny in size. There is no spyware, viruses, etc., attached. This tiny program will tell you in great detail, the information we need to know. It will tell what processor socket you are using, and the model number of the processor you have now. It will also detail a lot more information about your ram memory. The AMD Sempron 1.8GHz processor used Four different styles of processor sockets. Socket A, {1.83GHz actually, but sometimes stated as 1.8GHz}, Socket 754, Socket 939, and Socket AM2. CPU-Z will also tell what motherboard chipset is on the motherboard. {Northbridge/Southbridge chipset} The Northbridge chip determines what processors are supported. This is the homepage for CPU-Z, http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php {Copy this and paste it into your address bar, then press the Enter key} When you are on the CPU-Z homepage go up to the left corner. Left-click on CPU-Z 1.5 Setup. The first one in the list. (In blue) A small window will come up. Click on Save File. Let it download all the way. This file will go to your desktop screen, unless you have your downloads set to go to your My Documents folder. (Start>My Documents) When you see the file {cpuz_152_setup} Double-click right on the file name. You will get a small window with a security warning. It's okay I assure you. Now click on - RUN. Click on Next, I Accept, and Next. When you see the ASK Toolbar, I would click the box to UNCHECK it. Otherwise you will end up with the ASK Toolbar for a homepage! Now click on Next, Next and finally on Install. You will have an icon on your desktop screen for CPU-Z. Double-click on it. Let me know when you have this. I apologize that I am stating all of this in here, but so far I am not giving you a solution, so I put it in the Clarification category. I know it's hard to read. I can't space the sentences into easy to read paragraphs. If you have problems with downloading, or installing, come back and state so. We'll go step by step.
Yes, and No. Will get into great detail if you wish. Need to know two things first. 1.What processor is currently being used? 2.What Ram Memory is it using? Not how MUCH ram memory, but what type and speed? DDR2 at 533MHz, or DDR2 at 667MHz? Easy way to find out is to download for free, the tiny, little program Belarc Advisor.
