You do not state year of car. This is for most golfs 98-06.
switch ignition on
insert key to be programmed into drivers door lock
lock vehicle manually
press lock or unlock button
wait at least 1second
press lock or unlock button again
vehicle horn sounds to indicate correct programming.
good luck,barry

How do I disconnect the keyless door entry on my 1996 Golf 1.4?

The alarm system needs to be de-activated by turning the key to the unlock position at the drivers door lock cylinder when re-connecting the battery. The alarm control module cannot be disconnected otherwise the vehicle will not start.

I installed a new battery on my 95 vw golf, however when I connect the terminals the alarm sounds on the car. How do I install it without the alarm sounding?

just connect the terminals, and wait till the alarm stops(30secs)then UNLOCK/HOLD KEY OVER 30 secs, windows go down.then lock/hold key over, windows go up.then press remote unlock button for 30 secs, you have just reset the alarm system/central locking/window comfort facility.....has to be done EVERY time you disconnect battery........

VW key fob has stopped working.

Your best solution is to contact the main dealer and get the whole thing checked out .you could spend hours looking for the problem and never find it .

Imobiliser problem

If im not mistaken, your car should have an alarm reset/override.Below the steering column,on the dash should be a slot where you put your remote transmitter to deactivate the alarm. If that works, you then need to have your remote checked and coded by a vw dealer.Good luck.

Key fob problem

Not to be a smart azz but have you replaced the battery yet in the fob?

If so then it could be a bad fob, reciever, power issue, etc...

How do you change battery in key fob on 2002 vw golf

No problem. The key fob is two pieces. The key part and the remote. Open the key as you would to sue it. Where the key flips open you can see a small recess about where the line of the trunck switch. This is where the key separates. You can pull it off or pry it with a small screwdriver. Once separated with remote part in your hand this also splits in 2. In the same area you split the key off insert the screwdriver in this recess and the fob will open giving you access to the battery. Also can be done by hand. It is a little tight so you will have to force which is normal. No screws just clipped. Make sure the battery is positioned in the right way and that you have 3 volts when you test the battery. 2.7 volts will make the remote not work or act funny.
