i dont know what pin is the power switch

  • spynappels Jan 09, 2008

I also have the same problem, having put a Dell Dimension 2350 innards into a different case (long story) but now I'm not sure which pins to connect the power switch, HDD LED and Power LED to. Looking at the wiring loom on the Dell case is no longer anoption, so how do I find out which pins do what? The pins look like this:

    ....... ..

but they are not labeled. Can anyone help?

They are normally connected to pins at the bottom right hand side of motherboard. Pins will be marked to show what they are for.

Inwin pe663t2 front panel connectors do not fit

A power switch only needs 2 contacts as does a power LED so you need to follow the cables back to the switch and also the LED and then connect the ones from the switch to the switch contact and the led cables to the LED contacts on the motherboard.

I'm working on an Emachines T3624 I took out the front panel connectors and I can't remember where the power switch connects to the motherboard. I know the general area but I don't know the exact spot....

The manual can be downloaded here, just click on "drivers and downloads" and follow it out.

I was hoping to refer you to the manual to provide a diagram, but the manual does not show the front panel I/O connections, so I'll give you general instructions.

The front panel header is a set of two rows of pins. You may need a magnifying glass and flashlight to see the small print on the motherboard that identifies the pins. Look at your front panel cables and look for the same abbreviations on the circuit board. You should see "pw sw" (power switch), "rst" (reset), HDD (hard drive activity indicator LED), and "pw" (indicator LED that shows that the computer is powered up. There should also be speaker.

Just match the cables to the pins on the motherboard. Polarity ( + or - ) is only important for the LED's ( pw and HDD ) Don't worry, if you connect them wrong, they just won't work, just swap wires.

Please I need a picture or pictures of how you connect the cables from the cabinet in this motherboard GA-G31M-ES2L. the office that I'm trying to enjoy the positive it has entered a msg on the board and...

> HDD LED == hard-disk drive Light Emitting Diode (a "lamp" that lights-up when you are reading/writing files to/from your disk-drive)

> RST SW == the (optional) "reset" switch/button on the face-plate

> SPK == the internal PC loudspeaker

> PW SW == the power on/off switch/button on the face-plate

First, connect the "PWR SW", so that the ON/OFF button works.
It's much less important that the other wires be connected.
For example, if you never press the RESET button on the face-plate, you don't need to connect that button to the motherboard.

Help needed to connect power cables to Abit AV-8 mother board

Bottom right you will see a set of pins  - 2 rows on a black base, color coded: these are the system pins. Next to them you will find printed on the board the description of the connections to them - follow it.

How to connect power led ,HDD,Reset, power SW cables in hp motherboard s/n 383620-001

check your motherboard manual if you do not have it go to and look for manuals based on the model. this should give you detailed instructions as to which pins you plug those cables into. usually they are located towards the bottom of the motherboard to the right of your PCI Expansion slots

New installation of mother board

Hi check the cables from the case to the mother board. They should be marked and the book that came with the board will tell you where to connect them. The std markings are HDD [red led] PWR S [powerswitch] RSW [reset switch] PWR LED [case power light] To test if there is no fault in the board or power pack. first visualy check the board to see if you have a red led light on when the power is turned on, if not the problem is in the power pack or the wall outlet. second if the light is on, the bridge the pins marked pwr switch on the board with a screw driver and this should start the computer, if not you have a faulty board.
