I have the same problem. You have to have Windows XP. I am waiting for a response to see if there is a way to get around needing XP. (I have windows 2000)

I guess u do have windows xp. in tht case, right click on my computer, click manage, go to device manager, then to portable devices, select ur player, uninstall it, disconnect the player. after some time reconnect it, and it should in all probability work

Well one thing for sure is that is your computer reading your media palyer, or do you even have it installed to your computer.

There's a reset hole on the bottom. Push a paper clip in there. It will reset the device. Be warned though. It might also wipe everything you have stored.

Phillips Gogear SA5285/37 is frozen

Triple Reset for Philips’ GoGear:

Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

Phillips GoGear Problem

Run the Philips Device Manager and select Update. If the device manager won't recognize the player, unplug the GoGear, hold in either the shuffle button or volume + and reconnect the GoGear to the computer until a Found New Hardware Wizard window pops up.

My player isn't recognized by the Device Manager or Windows Media Player

I was experiencing this similar problem, and from my research so were alot of other people, what finally worked for me was this:

  • Update all the software on your computer via Phillips site
  • Open the Philips Device Manager
  • With the device connected and the 'connected to pc' screen showing on the GoGear, do a 'soft reset' by holding the Power Off + Volume Up buttons for a few seconds
  • As soon as the device restarts itself, hold the Volume Down button, the computer should now recognize the GoGear
  • Follow the onscreen directions to Repair the device
  • Thank the intarwebs.

Download music

The Media Converter only works for video files. Music files must be transferred using Windows Media Player. The Philips Device Manager is only good for Repairs and firmware Updates.
