Re: Dell Precision Workstation 650 series

Is the hard drive showing up in the bios? You can get an adapter to attatch it to a desktop pc to test if its working ok and get any important data off too. They only cost a few pounds off ebay.

Hope that helps?

BIOS reconfigured and no reboot

IF the update that you did was a bios update, you now have a brick, there is nothing that you can do unless the BIOS chip is removable. and you can order a new one. Otherwise it takes special equipment to reconstruct or install the BIOS.

You cannot replace the motherboard with a different one because laptop motherboards are not inter-changeable between models.
You need to purchase a new laptop, but you can remove the hard drive from the laptop and insert it into an USB hard drive case then use it as an external USB hard drive for backups and file transfers.

if you took out the hard drive that was in there, there will be no operating system for the computer to boot from, thats why you are getting that error, if you still have the old hard drive in the system and added the new one to it, you may have to go to the boot section in the bios and change the first boot device to the old hard drive..

Checksum Error after Bios Upgrade K7VZA

Have you tried resetting the CMOS? Often, after upgrading BIOS you need to clear the CMOS and re-setup to handle the new features. You should have a jumper to clear CMOS, or you can remove the power from the system and remove the battery for a few seconds to clear it.

Let me know if this clears up your issue.
