I had the same problem. I think that you need Windows XP along with Service Pack 2 for it to recognize the device. That is what I got from page 5 of the Quick Start Guide. I am waiting for a reply to see if there is any way to get around that because I have Windows 2000.

PHILIPS MEDIA CONVERTER

First, I would go to the Philips website and download the updated version of the Philips Media Converter - it will recognize more file types. If the new media converter still does not recognize your files, download a program called Riva FLV Encoder, and convert your video files to AVI format. The Philips Media Converter will then recognize the videos.

Hi trying to put music on my Philips GoGear 8GB from Windows Media Player but it wont even read the device to even sync.Do you need a CD or is just plug and play?

Definitely run the installation CD - you can grab the software and manual from Philips website if you have lost it.

Not all GoGear's are created equal - some recognize DRM-protected songs - others do not; some use Windows Media Player 10, some use Windows Media Player 11, and some can only use Windows Explorer - check manual for details - with Philips players, every word is important

FROZEN On NON SUPPORTED FORMAT DETECTED SCREEN

Reset the player by inserting a paerlcip into the reset hole. If that fails, go to Philips' website and upgrade the firmware on your player to solve the freezing issue permanently. Actually, don't go to Philips website - run the Philips Device Manager and select Update. If the device manager won't recognize the player, unplug the GoGear, hold in either the shuffle button or volume + and reconnect it to the computer until a Found New Hardware Wizard window pops up. Once all this is done, use the Philips Media converter to convert all your video files from now on.

I cant download youtube

The video conversion software (actually made by ArcSoft) will not naturally recognize FLV files. You will need a FLV to AVI converter - I use Riva FLV Encoder. Once the YouTube videos are converted to AVI, the video converiosn software for the GoGear should recognize it and convert the video. If the video conversion software is giving you a codec error - get codecs for FLV, AVI, MPEG-4, and any other format you may be using (Quicktime, latest version contains many of these Codecs).

Media converter won't convert....

Download an avi, mpeg-2, mpeg-4, flv, and a mov codec. You may already have several of these already. The quickest way is to download the latest version of Quicktime. The media converter is trying to runa preview of the video you are trying to convert, and it cannot because your computer lacks the proper codec.

Hi help me

You will have to convert all FLV videos to an AVI format using FLV Encoder or some other free program. Then the media converter will recognize them, and you can transfer them to your GoGear. Copyrighted music videos will not convert no matter what you do.

Philips gogear

Windows Media Player to transfer files

Arcsoft Media Converter to convert video files into a format the player will recognize

They both come on the installation CD for the GoGear
