Well, I bit the bullet and I FIXED IT MYSELF!!!! I had to undo the main bracket .... which allowed the tiny water pump to be taken out. Surprising how small it is . Anyway there was a ball of fluff/lint ready to fall out !!! so I think I have fixed it . It was an anoying intermittent, but growing, problem - and these can be the worst to diagnose. This fluff was blocking the outlet! Have done a complete wash and will do more tomorrow. This machine has already done a mountain of work over the years; can now recommend. Cheers Gaz - the expert!
