Convergence IC is faulty. The convergence ICs are available at this link http://www.matelectronics.com/ . Is the board you found guaranteed to be good? Changing ICs isnt difficult if you have some solder experience A new IC costs between 6 and 15 dollars at the link I provided.

My hitachi tv's picture is distorted red and green like a 3-d pic

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

Sp43w6hp red gun convergence problem

Hi!
as i see in your comment.. you have defective convergence correction amplifier ICs. the RED GREEN and BLUE (RGB) is amplified by the STK ICs. your RED convergence is not working good in the STK ICs! Replace the STK ICs a new one to get back the normal colors. Thanks...

Red and blue gun not lined up

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Thought I had a convergence problem - red is still broke

KCOZI,

I dont think you have problem with Red Gun.
One of your Convergence IC is faulty with 2 RK series Resisitor(Low Value) in Convergence
Amp Borad. If you changed IC look for RK series Resistor (may be 3.9ohm/2.7ohm)

Convergence problem on a Philips projection TV

They should be STK392-120 but check the numbers on yours to be positive. They are located on the extreme left of the chassis looking inside the back panel mounted on a heat sink. They will have STK Numbers stamped on them. Yes you should change both of them they cost 10.00 each at electronix.com You will need heat sink compound as well but this is better purchased at Radio Shack 2.00 per tube. Put a good coat of Heat sink compound on the back side of the new ICs. Also check over the resistors on the board next to the ICs sometimes 1 or 2 of those burn when the Cs go out. Let me know if you need anything further

Red Gun screwy!!

You have a typical convergence problem here that happens on just about every tube type projection TV set ever made. There are two STK IC's that will need to be changed. Best thing to do, if you have any soldering experience on printed circuit boards, would be to get the service manual, locate the convergence amp IC's order the correct parts and not any replacement IC's that cost less the 20 bucks, and change the IC's. If you have no solid state repair experience, play it safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck

57H82 convergence issue, but not STK IC

There are probably eight to ten resistors sitting behind the heat sincs the Chips mount on. You will need an Ohm Meter the easiest way to check them is just compare them with one another, you will see a pattern then you will see one that is really high or open (infinity) that is the one to change check the coor code on it to be sure you replace it with the right size
