Optorite DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner

Burner drive not being read

shared by 2 users

Hi,
My problem is that my DVD-R/CD-RW drive is not being
recognized in most of my programs.  If I right click the
drive itself, it says that it is working finea nd that
windows recognizes it as a recording drive. However,
neither Media Player nor Nero notice recognize that there
is a drive. I have a Daemon tools virtual drive if that
makes a difference.  Any help would be great, as I'd hate
to finally have a DVD drive and not be able to burn
movies.
Thanks for any help.
I have the same problem

I have an Optorite DD 1205. Explorer recognizes the drive, gives appropriate characteristics, yet when I put in a recorded disk or even a blank recordable disk, I get the message " Put a disk into the drive." I've looked for firmware uprades and have not been able to download any. I don't know what software came with the drive and would be glad of suggestions, esp if they might help with the stuff above.

If you are trying to use XP's built-in burning function, it is not
compatible with DVD burners.  Your DVD burner should have come with its own
software, did you install it.  Also, note, there is no packet writing
capability in XP; that's the drag and drop function or saving a file
directly to CD as in CD-R or RW.  If you have applications that work with
the XP burning function, they might have worked with CD-Rs or RW media but
for the most part, packet writing software must be installed for this to
work and that would apply to either CD-R-RW or DVD burning.

I am not using XP's burning function. My DVD drive did
not come with any sofware thatI know about, as it came
with my computer.  I have no made a recovery disc (can't
burn one), but I do have the drive, so maybe I could
reinstall something off of there? My biggest problem is
that none of my burning programs (Nero, Media Player,
Intervideo winDVD) are recognizing the drive as a
recording drive, only one of the image drives I have
(Nero keeps trying to create images, not burn a CD, Media
Player tells me I have no drives).

Have you always had this problem?  Since the drive came with your computer,
have you contacted the computer manufacturer's tech support about this
issue?  Have you checked to make sure the version of Nero and WinDVD are
compatible with XP and your specific make and model DVD, you should check
the application websites for that information.

This is a new computer, actually. I've had it 3 weeks.  I
have used Nero and Media player, etc on my laptop running
XP, so I dont know what is happening here. However, I
never thought to call the support line, as I am so use to
not having a warranty for anything I own... thank you.
