Because the drum light was blinking, I was only looking at drum problems..........and didn't look for the "elephant in the room".
It seems the drum light will blink every few seconds and of course the printer will not work when someone "pauses" the printer. When I finally saw what happened and made the printer "ready" for print jobs, the drum light stopped blinking.

The drum light is on due to a preset counter to notify you that the drum has reached the end of Normal Usage life expectancy. It doesn't mean that it has failed, yet...but soon. I would suggest having a new drum on hand for when print quality starts failing. Either new drum units have a reset fuse in them to clear the warning light, or there is a reset proceedure to use after installing the new drum unit.

- According to the users guide, on page 69, reset drum unit counter only when replacing your drum unit. However, use this info at your own discression....Make sure printer is on and drum light is on.Nov 06, 2009
- Lets try this again, Press the front cover release button and then open the front cover. Press and hold down 'GO' for ~4 seconds until allNov 06, 2009
- ...again.....hold 'GO' for 4 seconds until all the LED's are lit, release 'GO'. Pull out the drum unit. Reinstall drum unit. Close front cover.
