Hi I have bought a 2nd hand laptop NEC Versa M320
Hi I have bought a 2nd hand laptop NEC Versa M320 which runs on XP the only problem with it is that it will only run CD's and not DVD's. I have tried various methods including running windows media player which only shows VCD or CD in the play menu, I was brave and went into the device manager and the DVD/CD ROM drives does not seem to have a DVD related drive it shows TEAC CD-224E if that makes any sense. I'm at all PC literate and quite dim when it comes to things like this. Is there any way I could get the laptop to play DVD's as it is a present for my Mum for Xmas. Thanks Harriet

In answer to your question. No, you can not use DVD's on that player.
This TEAC CD-224E CD player is only good for viewing CD's and Cd's only.

See if you can get a different driver for your device from the manufacturer's website. Try that one first. You can do that by updating the driver on the device manager. Has the laptop detected the DVD in "my computer" like other computers do? If it does not, then the driver should fix it. Otherwise it may be a hardware issue.
