Re: printer not printing

On the machine there is a sensor that looks trough the waste tank even though you have wiped it clean the likely thing is that the sensor cannot see through the plastic waste tank.

I suggest vacuum the waste tank out until all the toner has gone then install it. If you cannot get rid of all the toner then wash the tank out and leave to dry then install it.

Hope this helps you
Thanks J

SOURCE: waster toner tank full/not install

The Waste Toner Cartridge must be VERY clean, especially around the "bump" directly below the left side hole. After I CAREFULLY emptied the old toner out, I used air compressor to clean every bit of toner out from inside. Then I wiped the whole area around the "bump" where the sensor "sees" if the tank is empty. Even a slight film over the area will not allow for reuse. If you do this, it works every time.

How to clean waste toner tank

1st don't wear a new shirt when doing this !!!!

waste toner tanks are not meant to be reused (not saying you couldn't ) but its gonna make a mess doing it so id choose not to do iinside the office that's for sure , replacement tanks are available from same sources you buy toner cartridges from then just tape up the spout and toss old one away , some machines will require a manual reset of toner tank alarm , consult your manual to see how you do it
and if your dead set on cleaning it , what id do is buy one new one install it and take old one outside in a field miles from nowhere using 91% isopropanol alcohol and a hand full of old rags (disposable gloves too) id wipe it clean ,then store it under machine in paper storage box (not tray) so its there ready to use next time you need it

Waste Toner Error Message For Samsung CLP 550

Dr. P,
Printer will display "Waste Toner Tank Full/Not Installed" error message if the waste tank is full of toner or not installed.
  • Open the waste tank door and check for the waste toner tank.
  • If the tank is full or not intalled, install a new tank.

If you have user guide, it will show you how to install the waste toner tank.

Sometimes you will also get this error message if the Waste Toner sensor is covered with toner powders.
  1. Remove your waste tank and look for the black plastic on the right side after removing the waste tank.
  2. You sould find small openings on each side in the black casing.
  3. Use Q-tips or thin cotton object to clean the inside the small opening.

How to clean waste tray

The printer uses an optical sensor to determine when the tank is full. There are clear plastic ports on the side of the tank that the light needs to penetrate in order for the printer to work, otherwise it will generate waste toner tank full error and stop printing. The easiest way to clean the waste toner tank, is to remove it from the printer, and dump the contents into a trashcan. Tap it a few times to get as much as you can. Then take some soap and water and partially fill the tank. Then take the green cap and place it over the tank opening. Shake the soapy water in the tank a few times to clean it. Then dump the soapy, toner water in the sink. Add some tap water into the tank and replace the cap and shake then drain. You don't need to get the tank completely clean, just enough to allow light to past through the clear plastic port. Dry the outside of the tank and and reinstall into the printer. Hope this helps you.

I keep cleaning the toner/printer waste tank cartridge and the printer continues to stop printing and the same error message displays saying "Replace/Install waste toner printer cartridge.

How are you cleaning the tank? Just dumping the contents into a trashcan may not work. The printer uses a light sensor to detect whether the tank is full. When the light does not shine through the clear window of the tank, the printer thinks that the tank is full. Sometimes cleaning the window with a cotton swab will make it work, but it can be difficult since the location of the window with respect to the opening of the tank is not a straight shot.

Another way to clean it would be dump the waste toner into ther trashcan. Tap the tank a few time to get as much of the toner out. Then add some soap and water into the tank and seal the tank opening with the green lid. Then shake the soapy water in the tank for a about a minute. Then dump the soapy toner/water out. Rinse again with just water and and allow it to dry. You don't have to get the tank completely clean, just enough to stop the waste tank error message.

Hope this helps.

My printer keeps putting these annoying black lines on my docs. I have an important paper to print and I cant have black lines on it! UGH! I tried dusting and cleaning the drum and restarting the computer...

As you talk of a drum, I take it you have a laser printer. You say you have checked the drum. Without knowing the model, sometimes the waste holder gets full and will cause this. Some carts have the waste holder just below the toner holder in the cart, and others have a separate waste tank.
Always run the printer on the leanest setting that will print well. Stay away from the rich settings as they waste toner and fill the waste tank needlessly, leading to a needed cleaning.
The lines can be waste toner getting printed rather than going into the waste tank.

Waste motor error

The wate motor transfers (you guess it) waste toner to the waste toner bottle. If the bottle fills up, the motor cannot transfer more waste to it. This is rare, for the printer should ask for a new waste toner bottle when the previous one fills. However,it happens frequently when users try to empty and clean the bottle instead of replacing it.

If a new waste toner bottle is in place, then the printer needs a new motor, which can only be purchased through an Authorized Service Center.

Waste toner tank full/not install keep displaying

The sensor for the waste toner tank is dirty or defective. The toner sensor is on the right as you look at the panel just below the liquid crystal display. There is a bump in the clear plastic just below the circular right vent port, that's where the used toner pours in. When you clean out the toner cartridge there is some residue left that makes the sensor think it's still full. Take a piece of paper towel and a small screwdriver (I'm told a bent coat hanger will work, too) and clean the inside of the sensor window inside the used toner cartridge (w/ access through the toner port). It looks like a little raised groove on the right. Just wipe it until it's clear on the inside. The sensor can now see through the window and you should be okay. Otherwise, the sensor may need to be replaced by an authorized Samsung technician. Let me know how it works out!
