Question about Garmin Forerunner 205 GPS Receiver
My unit tunrs itself off after a couple of minutes and also if the unit is tapped, even gently
.My forerunner started turning itself off in the middle of a run. I felt it was because I had overcharged the unit by leaving it plugged in the wall overnight. I called for support once because I couldn' t get the unit to come on, but succeeded with your help on boosting it. Then i started getting the unit going blank on me. I decided to delete all the data on about 6 months of running off my unit to see if it would help my unit funtion ,
May or may not relate to the above - My wife's would show full battery,
turn on ok, find sats ok, but as soon as she tried to put it around her
wrist it would turn off.
Problem was the front (containing the screen and inner electronics) part was coming away from the back part (containing the strap and internal battery part) when she was tightening it around her wrist the electonic board contacts separated from the battery - hence instant switch off.
Solution - using your finger nail separate the two parts, apply a fine layer of superglue to the joint push two parts back together and hold. CARE dont get superglue on any other part, it will melt the plastic and leave a mark.

Did you try updating the firmware of the unit?
Also, did you try to reset the unit?
Press mode and lap/reset simultaneously to reset the unit.
Also, try removing the battery and cleaning the contacts.

Sounds like the unit is damaged (hardware) you can try resetting it by letting it dischagre and removing the internal battery but i seriously doubth that will help.. I think it might be a short in the device itself could be eighter cracked solder(most likely) or a loosed component.
If you wish to try fixing it your self you can download your service manual
but it will be better if you take it in to a technician..
If you choose to attempt repair your slef or your just curious
1.) open it up
2.) gently tape different parts of the surfcae with a small plastic device such as a pen cover.
3.) try to isolate the componet or part of the board that is shorting by doing that
4.) once you fount it cafefully examin the solder by clowely rocking the componets to identify which is causng the problem.
5.) look at the soldering holding the component to the board.
6.) if its cracked (the cracks can be very very small) re solder i
7.) if the pins attached to the componet it self is coming loose you will need to change it..
AS I SAID BEFORE I RECOMEND YOU TAKE IT IN TO A TECHNICIAN.
