My Dell dv1000 has completely died

You are listing this unit as a HP and stating it is a dell.???

Unfortunately the Dell dv1000 has a track record for crapping out. There are a bank of weak resisters that just deteriorate from the heat of the computer over a long period of time. That's the bad news.

If they're not burnt up you could try this little trick. Take out the battery and unhook your charger. Now open your laptop and press AND HOLD the power button down for at least 15 seconds. Now put your battery back in along with the power supply and fire it up. This has worked for me on several attempts to restore a dead dv1000.

not sure change the cord It sounds like a power supply (the big box at the top of the computer (inside) that has all the wires coming out of it
