Proscan ps35160 powers off

Hi, I have a PS35160 chassis CTC179DJ. It will work well for a while ,about an hour or more, but then it gets white horz lines all over the screen and the sound pops. It also powers down and comes back on by itself. I have checked the tuner box for cold joints they seem ok.

Hi, thank you for posting make and model number, I`m afraid it`s all bad news for your set, the flyback transformer is getting ready to fail and because of the age of the set it is no longer available from RCA, heres the part number " 227318 " you can try calling some of your local shops to see if they have one sitting on the shelf but I wouldn`t hold my breath, sorry to give you bad news, if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me back, BMW Rider

RCA F32450

Hi, It appears that your unit has switched to protective mode (hence also no HV). When you unplug the set and "speakers thump", that would mean that the low B+ is still active and your SMPS is good. Your post "No high voltage" leads me to believe that you have a fair idea of working inside a TV. Should you venture to do-it-yourself (of course the standard precaution when working with TV units specially HV section), try checking: 1. an inductor/coil supplying the main B+ to the horz (probably L14???), resolder fully; 2. the Horizontal circuitry with special attention to the HOT (TL0?) and the FBT. It may also be a good idea to have the FBT ring tested. Other than above, it's the usual check with your VOM with attention to B+ line. Hope this be of some help/idea. Good luck and kind regards.

This is probably a tv with the "ctc-169" chassis. The BEST modern chassis RCA built. I own 2 of them that I USE, one is a 32" CONSOLE, a lot like your 27" set the other is a projo. I would keep BOTH of them ANY day--over ANY of the cheap, unreliable, fragile flat--panel sets today!!

FIX your set!! If the picture was good--it still will be--these sets had GREAT tubes in them. Most likely--a power supply isue with a couple of caps in the power supply, perhaps the controller chip for the chopper transistor, nothing likely serious. Probably about 150 repair--or less.

What is your customer service number

Hello amy123478,

Proscan is owned by RCA, but they have very little support for that product any more. RCA created another company to deal with the product it is They may have support for your TV set.

The chassis number is CTC169CG5 (This may help you find service data) since this same chassis is used in RCA models.

Any shop servicing RCAs should be able to find this chassis number and provide service to you, if RCA or Thomson Electronics is non-responsive to you.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

No Picture; Has sound and OSD Menu

Try a "hard restart", which simply means unplugging the power cord of the TV, and replugging it after 4 hours have passed. This technique reprograms the electronics to a certain extent.
You can also visit the manufacturer's website or call their tollfree number for problem solving info.
Hope these suggestions help you out.
