DROPPED MY HARD DRIVE

I dropped my Maxtor OneTouch II 300 GB from about a two feet height on carpet. Now there is this noise coming from it everytime I turn it on and it is not being recognized in the computer. Any solutions?

my onetouch 750GB dropped from vertical to horizontal.
sadly enough while it was busy reading from it.

now with each starting attempt i get a spinup of the disk and
a couple of rattling noises - in other words the drive is dead.

i opened the chasis and found a oem seagate barracuda drive in it
there is a jumper that allows you to put the drive in 1,5 Gb/s mode.
it didnt help me, but it may help you.

I'm all done with cursing and spitting now and will get a new drive.
well, if you wanna keep data you better get raid...

Dog tripped over the power cord and it dropped a foot to the floor. Now it makes some kind of musical alarm noise when I turn it on, and a faint rattling.

Well more that likely you disloged something in the case bu dropping it. What you need to do is open it up and see what has gone slack or disloged.. Its shoulden't require any replacement parts really as i dont think anything whould have been broken.

what you need to do it

open it in a clean enviornment which has little to no dust
and be careful not to break anything or soil anything while its opened

Have you tried right clicking on the drive and going into properties. Click on security option and make sure that all the permissions for the drive are active with the exception of special permissions. Also look at the advanced security settings and make sure that you have full control permissions. Hope this helps.

Maxtor is now owned by Seagate, and yes, you can go to http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/installation_assistance/installation_instructions/external_drives_&_personal_servers/ot2
Hope that helps, i am trying to get my Maxtor External II working now too, I think it's a power supply, cause it wants to keep installing the driver, but the driver is already there. Hmmm anybody?
