Updated to 3.01 and cannot play ANY DISCS

I updated my ps3 to 3.01 to play Tekken 6(it was required to update to play the new game) and the disc icon does not show up anymore. It will not play ANY DISCS. I heard the the firmware update disables the bluray player. Are there any ways that I can enable it again without damaging it?
This problem occurred on October 27th. I have done the following:

1) Restart
2) Check Discs
3) Restore Default Settings
4) Going on Playstation Home to access the game from there
5) Turning on Disc Auto Start
6) Full Format

And didn't work.
