I have 7 chainsaws. 6 of them if I forget to drain the oil reservoir will oil the surface of what they are sitting on. What you are seeing is normal.

IMO; use of the oiler creates a siphon. Any oil left in the tank will continue to siphon until the reservoir is empty. I could be wrong, I have been before.

Draining the tank works, nothing else I've tried does. HTH

How to troubleshoot oiler leaking

Is it really leaking or just oozing down the side of the bar and engine block due to a totally crud-filled oil slot in the guide bar?? I'd suggest pulling the chain and bar and inspect the oil port of the pump discharge and the slot in the bar that aligns with that port. Either or both could be impacted with sawdust not allowing oil to enter its proper path.

My poulan pro chainsaw dies when I give it gas and I think the bar and chain oil is leaking out during storage.

try and run it with the muffler off the build up with carbon and restricted the exhaust flow as for the oil leak mine the screws became loose behind the clutch for the oil pump

Poulan Pro Chain Saw 46cc 20

Yes, mine does that, too. It's seepage that gets past the oiler mechanism by gravity; not because anything is broken. The easy way to stop it is to store the saw so the gas and oil fill caps are facing down. No more seepage! Of course, you need to ensure that the fill caps are snug.

Bar oil leaks into storage case when chainsaw not in use???? Poulan Prow, PP4620 AVX 46 cc

The easy fix is to drain the oil tank when not in use. Many saws will leak some oil initially, but should not continue to do so. If it is making a large puddle, oil is getting past the oil pump which may be worn from long use. Make sure the tank vent is not plugged as heat from the engine can increase pressure in the tank thus forcing oil out. Hope this helps!

Chain Lube Leak

It is the nature of the beast. Many chainsaws suffer from this malady. I own a bunch.

Try loosening the oil cap prior to bed.

Poulan-Pro 295 leaks excessive bar-chain oil

It's a seal somewhere either on the reservoir, or the 'feed' to the bar.
But in the short term, if you must use it, the simplest way of stopping the leak, is to not store it with any oil in it, until you locate the source of the leak.
That should help, but I'll wish you good luck never the less ;)
& plz don't forget to rate, thankyou :)

Chain moves while idle

Hello there. Regarding the bar oil, many loggers plan their work so that they are out of bar oil at the same time that they quit for the day because bar oil has a tendency to leak. Another method that has some success is to mix your bar oil with a heavier oil but the trade off might be less lube getting to the chain when you need it.

Regarding the chain moving in idle, this is another common problem. You can usually slow the idle down until the chain stops, as you indicated, but I too have had chain saws where I finally just decided to live with it and be extra attentive to what was going on.
