My Mitsumi DW 7801 TE DVD-RW quit burning dvd-r or -rw after I had to reinstall Windows. When I ran the Belarc Advisor it shows both of my drives to be cd-rom drives. I get an "Insert blank disk..." message when I insert a dvd disk and attempt to burn it or even read it to see what is on it. I have used Maxell DVD-R 4.7gb, up to 16x, 2 Hrs in SP mode and Memorex DVD-RW disk. I have windows XP on a Dell Pent 4, 638 RAM.Any suggestions or is it time to replace the drive? or the computer?

CDBurnerXP is a good, free disc burning program that can do what you need. Rather than try to duplicate the information here, I'll just say that help is here on their website that explains how to use the program. It's quite simple, though. You just drag-and-drop the files you want to burn to the program's layout window, and when you're done adding files you click the "burn" button.
I think that Teac DV-28e Is a CD/DVD-ROM only, and will not burn discs. Teac DW-28e is a CD RW/ DVD ROM unit, and will thus play and burn CDs, but will only play DVDs. Check your model numbers to confirm, and then consider exchanging units if you need to burn CDs.
make sure that the dvd rw is getting enough consistent power test all leads that are attached to the cd rom including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might bebad/faulty or your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program you might have to physically unplug the leads for this dvd rw then plug them back in this will activate found new hardware wizard or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your dvd burner or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device or you might have to uninstall the burning software then reinstall your burning software
are u copying the disc on the fly i mean directly from dvd rom to dvd rw it sometimes generate this error when reading drive stops giving data due to some error and suddenly bcoz of that the writing drive leavve the session un closed and give an error the solution is first copy ur disc on the hard drive and then copy it on another disc on the fly copying is not safe otherwise also try this
